Excursions in Luxor

Luxor is a city on the east bank of the Nile in the south of Egypt. It is located on the site of ancient Thebes, the capital of the pharaohs at the height of their power in the 16th-11th centuries BC. The current city surrounds two huge, still preserved ancient monuments: the graceful Luxor Temple and the Karnak Temple, a mile to the north. The royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens are located on the west bank of the river.
